Adaptive Eyewear's one size fits all eyeglasses can be quickly fitted with the guidance of a trained health worker, overcoming the traditional barriers to delivering vision correction in the developing world.
The glasses are designed to withstand a wide variety of environmental and physical conditions, and are made from a durable frame and polycarbonate lenses. The products comply with relevant safety and quality requirements of the International Organisation for Standardisation (ISO 13485 & ISO 9001).
Adaptive Eyewear currently offers two products to meet people's vision correction needs.
Emergensee™ – the world's first variable focus eyeglasses based on gliding lens technology – are innovative adjustable eyeglasses that focus at the turn of a dial to suit the needs of the user. The glasses can be adjusted to most people's vision in minutes and are continuously adjustable for distance, reading and shared use. Emergensee™ are a cost-effective solution that can immediately improve the quality of life of those without access to vision care.
Emergensee™ are based on Alvarez gliding lens technology – named after the inventor and Nobel Prize laureate, Luis Alvarez. Each lens comprises two saddle-shaped parts that move across each other in opposite directions when the dial is turned. This enables the user to change the power of each lens from -6 to +3 dioptre.
The design employed by Emergensee™ was developed at the VU Medical University of Amsterdam in 2004 in collaboration with the d.o.b. foundation, creating the world's first adjustable eyeglasses based on gliding Alvarez lens technology.
p.o.v.™ are innovative fluid filled adjustable eyeglasses that focus at the turn of a dial to deliver perfect vision. The power of each lens can be changed by shifting fluid in or out of the lens. Once set to the desired power, the lenses are sealed and the adjusting dials removed.
The lightweight and durable eyeglasses provide instant vision at near, intermediate and far distance, covering a wide range of spherical powers from -4.5 to +3.5 dioptre. The impact resistant polycarbonate lenses are coated to ensure that they are both durable and easy to clean.
p.o.v.™ are a high quality vision correction solution that can immediately improve the quality of life of those without access to vision care.
